Chimney fires can easily occur, sometimes with little or no warning. This is a very dangerous
situation that might take place in your home just because of the presence of an indoor fireplace or wood burning stove. Chimney fires can be prevented with just a little work.

Burning wood produces smoke; this smoke rises from the chimney and leaves the house and goes into the outside air. The smoke cools quickly and condenses in the chimney's interior. Those particles in the smoke began to bond and adhere to the interior of the chimney forming a flaky or gummy substance known as creosote.  Creosote is the substance that can cause a chimney fire.

Creosote is highly flammable and can lead to disastrous circumstances under the right conditions. Fires resulting from creosote are very difficult to control and extinguish.  It is very important to keep the amount of creosote in your chimney very low.All wood is not good for your fireplace.  Green or unseasoned wood is the primary cause of creosote.  This wood burns at cooler temperatures than seasoned wood thus producing favorable conditions for the smoke to condense quickly in the chimney yielding indoor air hazards and promoting faster creosote buildup.  Green or unseasoned wood, if purchased, is usually cheaper than seasoned wood.

Always buy seasoned wood to burn in your fireplace.  Fires produced from
seasoned wood burn hotter can reduce creosote buildup.  If you cut your own wood, remember to give it time to become properly seasoned.

Lets face it, every fireplace has some level of creosote.  To avoid a fire started by creosote you
should:
1.  Avoid buring anything that can catch fire easily such as tissue or wrapping papers.
2.  Have your chimney regularly cleaned and inspected by a professional chimney sweep.

CHIMNEY CAPS-  We sell and install 18 gauge Stainless Steel Caps and Copper Caps sold only by professionals not the discounted caps that you purchase locally. They keep the animals and other debre out as well as keep sparks from flying all over your roof. They come with a lifetime warranty against manufactures defects. They also come in oversize sizes to add extra protection to your crown.

TOP SEALING DAMPER CONTROLS- Not just a replacement damper but a energy saving damper. Imagine a chimney cap that has a inside lid with a rubber silicone gasket that is not found on throat dampers.

VIDEO INSPECTIONS-  We use a camera to inspect what cant been seen by birds eye view inside the chimney looking for cracks and missing mortar between tiles as well as buckled pipes in pre fab chimneys.

The National Fire Protection Association Code 211 requires that all masonry chimneys have a liner and that all void areas are properly sealed.

CHIMNEY SWEEPING- A fireplace standard cleaning includes a visual inspection and removal of the flaky creosote deposits from the fireplace system (the chimney flue, smoke chamber and firebox). Special rods, chimney brushes, hand brushes and a vacuum are used. It is only after the flaky creosote is removed (during the standard fireplace cleaning) that glazing can be detected. Glazing develops when flaky creosote becomes baked on and requires the use of specialized equipment for it's removal.  Creosote is flammable and the risk of a chimney fire is present.  If this creosote is ignited, the intensity of the heat can crack the tile liner and flames pose a fire hazard to the home.

One of the many areas we check during an inspection.  We also run a digital scanner from the bottom to check for cracks and missing mortar. We also install panels for cracked pre fab fireplaces, install ash dump doors and clean out doors and install glass doors.
